Underwriting Review Leader
Description: Lead and coordinate underwriting reviews at the company’s operating units.
Reports to: Underwriting Review Manager
Responsibilities:

Planning and staffing underwriting reviews (the reviews are staffed with underwriters from other operating units)

Interviewing departmental personnel and senior management
-
Coordinating and evaluating the work of the review team members
-
Assessing the practices, procedures, and results of the operating unit including:

quality of risk selection,
-
execution of underwriting strategy,
-
pricing discipline and adequacy
-
-
Assessing the effectiveness of the organizational structure, staffing, and management information
-
Developing opportunities for improvement
-
Leading closing meetings and delivering feedback to operating unit management and executive management
-
Preparing the audit workpapers, written report and recommendations
-
Following up on implementation of recommendations
-
Automating, standardizing and continuously improving the review process, reporting and follow up procedures
Experience:
-
Accomplished commercial P&C insurance professional (over 10 years)

Seasoned commercial multi line underwriting expertise:
-
been underwriter and underwriting manager
-
been involved with underwriting best practices development and monitoring
-
lead underwriting quality review and file audit processes
-
evaluation of pricing practices
-
forms and coverage
-
regulatory compliance
-

Diversified commercial P&C insurance experience:
-
various primary insurance products
-
admitted and non-admitted
-
standard lines and specialty lines
-
treaty and facultative reinsurance
Skills and characteristics:

Strong leader and manager. Ability to manage and direct a diverse group of volunteer underwriting expert team members

Have presence to, and experience in dealing with senior and executive management

Good at relationship building, influencing and persuading at all levels

Strong project management, organization and documentation skills

High level of attention to detail with an inquisitive nature

Ability to work independently and has strong work ethic

Excellent communicator (verbal and written)

Independent nature. Able to work in an environment with no administrative support
Company headquarters are in Greenwich, CT. It is preferable, but not required for the individual to be located within commuting distance to Greenwich, CT.
The job will require travel (approximately 40%) to operating unit locations. If not located near Greenwich, CT then there will be travel to the home office as well. Travel is mostly within the United States but there is some international travel as well. The US trips are usually 4 to 5 days, the international could be longer.
